frequently asked questions
What is Natural Horse Keeping?
Natural Horse Keeping is a system of management that respects the true nature of our recently-domesticated horse companions. The equine spirit is one that is social, craves freedom and desires contant motion. Natural horse keeping honors each of these aspects.
What if I cannot come to the barn every day to clean my stall?
Horses are fed outside every day and have 24 hour access to their paddocks. Therefore, their stalls do not need to be cleaned every day. However, as horses tend to prefer being inside in the summer you should plan on coming out daily to clean your stall during July and August.
What if I don't live within 20 minutes from the farm?
In our experience, people that live more than 20 minutes from the farm are not able to keep up with the demands of a rough board facility. In order to keep up with stall cleaning and visiting your horse, it's best if you live no farther than 20 minutes from the farm.
Do you have grass pastures?
No. Unfortunately we do not have the space required to offer grass pastures for grazing. Instead, we have dirt paddocks.
Can I bring my stallion to your farm?
Unfortunately we have not designed our facilities to meet the unique needs of stallions. Under no circumstances will we consider stallions or older horses recently gelded.
Can I store my horse trailer at the farm?
No. We do not have enough parking space at the farm to keep your horse trailer.
The farm looks interesting. What are the next steps?
If you are interested in learning more please call 978-432-1364 or email info@naturespiritfarm to arrange for a barn tour. After the barn tour we will provide you with an application. After checking your references you will be notified if your application was accepted. At that time you will be provided with a welcome package that includes all the forms required. All forms must be completed and submitted prior to bringing your horse to live at the farm.
